I use the term "Soft Tissue Therapy" as the term ‘Sports’ implies your injury or aches are from a sport... yet I see 'life' as the sport. And ‘massage’ is a disservice to how much can be achieved with hands on soft tissue treatment.

Massage for the Upper Body

When you have an ache or pain in your upper or lower back, the ideal situation is for you to completely remove your top to allow full access to your back muscles.

For Males, this shouldn’t be as much of an issue.

For Females, a sports bra or one that allows to access the aching back muscles will be fine.

All clients are covered with a fresh clean towel or sarong throughout.

Massage for the Lower Body

Generally, if the lower part of your body is to be treated, wearing a pair of loose-fitting shorts is the best idea.

If they are too tight, like cycling shorts, it can cause an issue with the massage as they can restrict access to the higher part of your leg.

Any clothes worn should be easily moved out of the way as any massage on your thighs or calves will be more beneficial if we can see and get to the muscles on your legs.

Specific Clothing Rules

Ideally, please wear as little around the area to be treated as possible.

  • Make sure clothes can easily be removed or rolled up
  • You can pull it up or out of the way for treatment
  • We can observe the muscles you are having trouble with as well as those surrounding them
  • Make sure clothes are thin and/or loose fitting
Remember these tips so that I can help you get the most out of your massage.

Accessibility is particularly important, as often the problem causing the pain or ache you have may not even be in the muscle that hurts.

It can be an issue with another muscle groups nearby, so easy access to the general area of the pain will be advantageous
During your first massage treatment, you will be asked to fill out a health history form. This will detail:

  • Any specific concerns or areas of pain you have
  • Timestamp when the pain or injury occurred
  • Highlight causes and triggers
  • Current activity, nutrition and lifestyle habits
  • Current health status
We'll then complete range of movement tests that target muscles and joints associated to the problem area.

If you have to change or rearrange any clothing I leave the room.

I'll supply fresh towels and a sarong to cover up whilst on the massage couch. If you'd refer to bring you own towels etc that's also OK.

I'll use a variety of massage techniques to manipulate the muscles, tendons, and soft tissues in your body.

During the massage we'll continue to chat but if you'd prefer to use the time to fully relax and switch off that's also OK.

After the massage I will provide aftercare advice and recommend any stretches or exercises that will help to support the benefits of the massage.

I look forward to seeing you in the clinic to prevent injuries and/or getting you pain free.

A typical client massage plan is between 3 and 6 sessions in the first 3 to 4 weeks. Each session will include a small amount of homework to ensure you get the most benefits.

This approach means we make great headway towards combating any pain or niggles you have and correcting the causes.

After each session, we will discuss your progress and determine the best course of action for your continued care. Whether it's continuing with massage or trying other therapies, the sessions will give us a good baseline for your wellness and eliminate pain.

Remember that communication is important during the session so please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
At the end of each session you will be given an update on how your body seems to have reacted to the treatment and you will be given advice on how you can manage any discomfort once you leave the clinic.

You may feel slightly sore, tender and a little lethargic post-treatment, all of which can be totally normal.

After your treatment we can also discuss ways in which you can maintain the benefits of your treatment and self-manage any injuries, but these may include:

  • Foam rolling/ self-massage
  • Stretching
  • Strengthening
  • Work station modification
  • Hydration
As a massage therapist, it is important to create a safe and comfortable environment for all my clients.

If at any point during the massage you do not feel comfortable, I will stop the massage immediately and discuss any concerns or issues you may have.

It is important that you feel heard and respected, and your comfort and safety are my top priority.

If necessary, I may adjust the pressure or technique used in the massage to ensure you are comfortable throughout the session.

It is also important for all my clients to communicate their needs and preferences throughout the session, so that I can ensure that your massage experience is as beneficial and enjoyable as possible.
No, massages should NOT be painful or unbearable.

In fact, they should be relaxing and therapeutic. However, it is important to communicate with me about any areas of discomfort or pain before, during and after any treatment. I can easily adjust the technique and pressure accordingly.

My soul purpose and aim is to make you pain-free, not for you to endure more pain or walk away in agony.
